Impermeable
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005726
Describing a macromolecule in solution whose domain is impenetrable to the flow of the solvent. The polymer coil effectively traps the solvent within its structure, causing the entire macromolecule and its entrapped solvent to move as a single hydrodynamic unit. This behavior contrasts with that of a free-draining macromolecule, where solvent molecules can readily pass through the polymer coil.
