Impermeable
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001948
Describing a rock or material that does not allow fluids to pass through it, or allows passage only at extremely slow rates. Impermeable rocks, such as shales, evaporites, and dense carbonates, act as seals or caprocks, preventing the upward migration of hydrocarbons from a reservoir.
