Indirect reaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005782
A reaction in which the colliding reactants form a reactive complex that lives longer than its period of rotation before breaking into products, also called a complex-mode reaction. Because the complex loses memory of the approach direction, the products in a molecular-beam experiment scatter at random with respect to the center of mass. It contrasts with a direct reaction, whose complex lives for less than one rotation and gives products scattered in preferred directions.
