Complex-mode reaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002326
An elementary reaction in which the colliding partners form an intermediate complex that lives longer than a few rotational periods before it falls apart into products, also called an indirect reaction. This is in contrast to a direct reaction, in which reactants pass to products in a single encounter without a long-lived complex. The long lifetime lets the complex lose memory of the approach direction, so products tend to emerge with a symmetric angular distribution.
