Induced pluripotent stem cell
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013189
A pluripotent stem cell produced from a differentiated adult somatic cell, such as a skin fibroblast or a blood cell, by forcing expression of reprogramming factors, classically Oct4, Sox2, Klf4, and c-Myc. Like embryonic stem cells, which derive from the inner cell mass of the blastocyst, these cells self-renew and can differentiate into derivatives of all three germ layers. Takahashi and Yamanaka first made them from mouse fibroblasts in 2006.
