Embryonic stem cell
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003841
A type of pluripotent cell obtained from the undifferentiated inner cell mass of a blastocyst, a very early-stage embryo. These cells have the capacity to divide indefinitely while remaining unspecialized and can differentiate into all derivatives of the three primary germ layers: ectoderm, endoderm, and mesoderm. In humans, the blastocyst stage occurs four to five days after fertilization.
