Interference fringes

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005943

A pattern of alternating light and dark bands produced when two or more coherent waves of electromagnetic radiation superimpose. These fringes arise from constructive and destructive interference, where path differences cause phase shifts between the waves. They are observed in optical instruments like interferometers and can be used to measure distances or refractive indices.
