Ion-selective field effect transistor

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006148

A type of field-effect transistor where the metal gate electrode is replaced by an ion-selective membrane, allowing the device to function as a chemical sensor. Changes in the concentration of a specific ion in the solution in contact with the membrane alter the surface potential, which in turn modulates the current through the transistor. This device offers miniaturization and direct electronic signal transduction for ion sensing.
