IRTRAN™

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013216

A trade name of Eastman Kodak for a family of hot-pressed polycrystalline infrared optical materials, including IRTRAN 1 (magnesium fluoride), IRTRAN 2 (zinc sulfide), IRTRAN 3 (calcium fluoride) and IRTRAN 4 (zinc selenide). Each grade is transparent over its own range of the infrared, and they are used as windows, lenses and filters in infrared instruments. Unlike alkali halide windows such as potassium bromide, these materials are not water soluble.
