Isoionic point
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006191
The specific pH value at which a pure, salt-free amphoteric substance, such as a protein, carries a net charge of zero. At this pH, the number of protons dissociated from acidic groups is exactly balanced by the number of protons accepted by basic groups. The isoionic point is an intrinsic property of the molecule, whereas the isoelectric point can be influenced by the presence of other ions in the solution.
