Kairomone
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006297
A semiochemical emitted by one organism that benefits the receiver but is detrimental to the emitter. These chemical signals are often exploited by predators or parasites to locate their prey or hosts. For example, carbon dioxide released by animals can act as a kairomone for mosquitoes.
