Kinematic factor
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006343
A dimensionless quantity in Rutherford backscattering spectrometry that describes the ratio of the energy of a scattered projectile ion after collision with a target atom to its initial energy. This factor depends on the masses of both the projectile and target atoms and the scattering angle. It is used to determine the mass of the target atom from the measured energy of the scattered ion.
