Scattered-ion energy
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010557
The kinetic energy of an ion after it has undergone an elastic collision with an atom on a sample surface. This energy is dependent on the mass of the incident primary ion, the mass of the surface atom, and the scattering angle. Measuring this energy provides information about the elemental composition of the outermost atomic layers.
