Liquid ion evaporation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006677
A spray ionization interface for mass spectrometry in which a pneumatic nebulizer disperses the liquid into droplets that are charged by a high-potential electrode, so that gas-phase ions form as the solvent evaporates from them. Ions are released from the shrinking droplets, as proposed in the ion evaporation model. It differs from plain electrospray in that a flow of nebulizing gas, not the electric field alone, forms the droplets.
