Desolvation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003063
The removal of solvent molecules from a solvated species, such as an ion or a macromolecule, to produce a gas-phase entity. In electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, this occurs as the solvent evaporates from charged droplets, leaving the analyte ions free of their solvent shell. The efficiency of this process depends on factors like the solvent's volatility and the temperature of the interface region.
