Ion evaporation model
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006079
A theoretical model describing the mechanism of ion formation in electrospray ionization, particularly for small, highly charged ions. It proposes that highly charged droplets shrink through solvent evaporation until the electric field at their surface becomes strong enough to eject pre-formed ions directly into the gas phase. This model contrasts with the charged residue model.
