Full-evaporation headspace analysis

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004699

A headspace sampling technique, static or dynamic, in which a small sample sealed in a vessel is heated until the analytes vaporize completely, so that no equilibrium between the sample and its vapour is established. The gas phase then contains essentially all of the analyte, and a portion of it is taken for analysis, usually by gas chromatography. Interference from the matrix is smaller than with equilibrium headspace analysis, and low-volatility compounds are transferred to the gas phase to a greater extent.
