Liquid junction interface

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006681

An arrangement that links a capillary electrophoresis separation to a mass spectrometer through a small vessel of make-up liquid enclosing both the outlet end of the separation capillary and the inlet end of a transfer capillary that leads on to the spectrometer. The liquid also provides the electrical contact that completes the electrophoresis circuit. The ends of the two capillaries stand opposite one another with a narrow gap that the liquid bridges, unlike a sheath-flow interface, in which liquid flows coaxially around the capillary.
