Liquid scintillation detector

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006683

A device used to detect and quantify ionizing radiation, particularly beta particles and low-energy gamma rays, by mixing the radioactive sample with a liquid scintillator. The radiation interacts with the scintillator, producing light pulses that are then detected by photomultiplier tubes. This method is commonly employed in radioanalytical chemistry for environmental monitoring and biomedical research.
