Low temperature UV-VIS absorption spectroscopy

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006783

A molecular absorption spectroscopy technique where the ultraviolet or visible spectrum of a sample is measured while it is held at a very low temperature. Cooling the sample, often in a cryostat, reduces thermal motion and molecular interactions, resulting in sharper and more resolved spectral bands. This method is distinct from high-resolution spectroscopy, which achieves fine detail through instrumentation rather than sample temperature control.
