Lyotropic mesophase
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006852
A liquid crystalline phase formed by amphiphilic molecules in a solvent, where the phase behavior is dependent on concentration and temperature. These mesophases exhibit long-range order due to the self-assembly of molecules into structures like micelles, lamellae, or hexagonal arrays. Examples include soap solutions and biological membranes.
