Manipulator
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006948
A mechanical device used for handling radioactive materials remotely, allowing an operator to perform tasks from behind protective shielding. These systems replicate the operator's hand and arm movements to grasp, position, and assemble objects within a hot cell or glove box. Manipulators range from simple tongs to complex, servo-controlled robotic arms, and are classified by their load capacity and degrees of freedom.
