Meckel diverticulum

A congenital outpouching of the small intestine, specifically the ileum, that represents a remnant of the vitelline duct (yolk sac). This anomaly results from incomplete obliteration of the duct during fetal development. It is the most common congenital malformation of the gastrointestinal tract, occurring in approximately 2% of the population.
