Thyroglossal duct
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012049
An embryonic remnant that forms during the descent of the thyroid gland from the base of the tongue to its final position in the neck. This duct normally obliterates before birth. Persistence of this structure can lead to the formation of a thyroglossal duct cyst, a common congenital neck mass.
