Thyroglobulin
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012048
A large glycoprotein synthesized and secreted by the follicular cells of the thyroid gland, serving as a precursor for thyroid hormones. It stores iodine and tyrosine residues, which are subsequently processed to form triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). The measurement of its levels in blood can indicate thyroid function or the presence of thyroid cancer.
