Thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012053
A cell surface protein found primarily on thyroid follicular cells that binds thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), initiating a signaling cascade that regulates thyroid hormone production and release. Autoantibodies targeting this receptor can either stimulate or block its function, leading to thyroid dysfunction. In Graves' disease, stimulating autoantibodies cause hyperthyroidism by mimicking TSH action.
