Thymus-independent antigen
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012047
An antigen capable of directly stimulating B lymphocytes to produce antibodies without the involvement of T lymphocytes. These antigens possess repetitive structural motifs, such as those found on bacterial polysaccharides or lipopolysaccharides, that can cross-link B cell receptors. The resulting immune response primarily produces IgM antibodies and does not generate long-lasting immunological memory.
