Multienzyme
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007635
A protein or protein assembly that carries more than one catalytic function, supplied by separate domains of one polypeptide chain, by separate subunits, or by both. The pyruvate dehydrogenase complex, with three enzymes on different chains, and animal fatty acid synthase, with several activities on one chain, are examples. The two arrangements are called multienzyme complexes and multienzyme polypeptides.
