Lyases
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013245
A class of enzymes that catalyze the cleavage of chemical bonds by means other than hydrolysis or oxidation, forming new double bonds or rings. They facilitate the addition of groups to double bonds or the removal of groups to form double bonds. An example is pyruvate decarboxylase, which removes a carboxyl group from pyruvate.
