non-Kekulé molecules
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008031
Organic molecules that cannot be adequately represented by classical Kekulé structures, which consist solely of alternating single and double bonds. These molecules often possess unpaired electrons or unusual bonding arrangements, leading to diradical or polyradical character. An example is trimethylenemethane, which is a triplet diradical in its ground state.
