Nozzle-skimmer dissociation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008088
The fragmentation of ions that occurs in the region between the atmospheric pressure ionization source nozzle and the skimmer in a mass spectrometer. This dissociation is induced by collisions with residual gas molecules as ions expand into the vacuum, often facilitated by a potential difference between the nozzle and skimmer. It is a form of in-source collision-induced dissociation.
