Occlusion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008180
The process by which impurities are trapped within a growing crystal lattice during precipitation from a solution. These impurities are not chemically bound but are physically enclosed within the crystal structure. Occlusion differs from adsorption, where impurities are held on the surface of the precipitate.
