Occult blood

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008181

Blood present in stool or other bodily secretions in amounts too small to be visible to the naked eye. Its detection typically relies on chemical tests that identify the pseudoperoxidase activity of hemoglobin or immunological assays that target human globin. The presence of occult blood can indicate gastrointestinal bleeding or other medical conditions.
