Off-gel isoelectric focusing
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008200
A method for separating proteins or peptides based on their isoelectric points, performed in solution rather than within a gel matrix. The sample is placed in individual wells containing immobilized pH gradient strips, and an electric field is applied to drive the molecules to their pI. This technique is often used as a prefractionation step before mass spectrometry.
