Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012376
A high-resolution analytical technique used to separate proteins based on two independent properties: isoelectric point and molecular weight. Proteins are first separated by isoelectric focusing in a pH gradient, then by size using sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). This method can resolve thousands of proteins from a complex biological sample on a single gel.
