Immunoelectrophoresis

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005668

A laboratory technique that combines electrophoresis with immunodiffusion for the separation and identification of proteins in a mixture. Proteins are first separated by electrophoresis in a gel, and then antibodies are applied to a trough parallel to the electrophoretic separation. Precipitin arcs form where specific antigens and antibodies meet and react, indicating the presence of particular proteins.
