One-photon photochromism

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008238

The reversible transformation of a chemical species between two forms with different absorption spectra, induced by the absorption of a single photon of light. This process involves a change in molecular structure, such as isomerization or bond cleavage, which can be reversed by light of a different wavelength or by thermal means. Many spiropyran and diarylethene compounds exhibit one-photon photochromism.
