Photochromism
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013395
A reversible transformation of a chemical species between two forms, induced by electromagnetic radiation, where the two forms have different absorption spectra. This change involves a light-induced alteration in the molecular structure, which can be reversed either thermally or by irradiation with light of a different wavelength. Photochromic materials are used in applications such as ophthalmic lenses and optical data storage.
