Organyl groups

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013368

Any organic substituent group, whatever its functional type, that has its single free valence on a carbon atom, such as ethyl, chloromethyl, acetyl or 4-pyridylmethyl. The name is also used as a combining form, as in organylthio and organyloxy groups. A group with its free valence on a heteroatom instead, such as phenoxy, belongs to the organoheteryl groups.
