Organoheteryl groups

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008317

Univalent organic groups that contain carbon but carry their free valence on an atom other than carbon, such as oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur or silicon. Phenoxy, acetamido and trimethylsilyl are examples, whereas hydroxyphenyl, with its free valence on carbon, is not. The collective term is seldom used, and specific subclasses such as organylthio groups are more often named.
