Oxytocin

A peptide hormone and neuropeptide composed of nine amino acids, synthesized in the hypothalamus and stored in the posterior pituitary gland. Its release into the bloodstream triggers uterine contractions during childbirth and stimulates the ejection of milk during lactation. The synthetic form of oxytocin is administered medically to induce or augment labor and to control postpartum bleeding.
