Ozone hole

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008410

A region of exceptionally depleted ozone in the stratosphere over the Antarctic, occurring annually during the spring. This phenomenon is primarily caused by the catalytic destruction of ozone by chlorine and bromine atoms derived from human-made chlorofluorocarbons. The minimum ozone concentration within the hole can fall below 100 Dobson Units.
