Ozone layer

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008411

A region within Earth's stratosphere characterized by a relatively high concentration of ozone (O3) molecules. This atmospheric layer absorbs the majority of the Sun's harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation, protecting life on the planet's surface. Its thickness varies seasonally and geographically, typically peaking at altitudes between 20 and 30 kilometers.
