Chlorofluorocarbon
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002017
An organic compound consisting of carbon, chlorine, and fluorine atoms, formerly widely used as refrigerants, propellants, and solvents. These compounds are highly stable in the lower atmosphere but migrate to the stratosphere, where they catalyze the depletion of the ozone layer. Their production and use are largely phased out under the Montreal Protocol.
