Chlorocarbons

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012979

Compounds composed solely of carbon and chlorine, with no hydrogen or other elements, such as carbon tetrachloride, tetrachloroethylene, and hexachlorobenzene. They are the chlorine analogues of the fluorocarbons, which contain only carbon and fluorine. Chlorinated compounds that still contain hydrogen, such as dichloromethane or the polychlorinated biphenyls, are usually called chlorohydrocarbons rather than chlorocarbons.
