Pauci-immune
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008553
Describing a form of tissue injury, particularly in glomerulonephritis and vasculitis, characterized by the absence or scarcity of immune deposits of immunoglobulin and complement components upon immunofluorescence microscopy. This finding suggests that the inflammation is not directly caused by the deposition of immune complexes, but by other mechanisms, such as cell-mediated immunity. Pauci-immune glomerulonephritis is strongly associated with the presence of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA).
