Perturbed dimensions
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008693
The actual dimensions of a polymer chain in a solvent, which are influenced by interactions between polymer segments and between polymer segments and solvent molecules. These dimensions deviate from the unperturbed dimensions, which represent the chain's size in an ideal theta solvent where polymer-solvent and polymer-polymer interactions are balanced. The expansion or contraction of the coil is a result of these interactions.
