Photoluminescence
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008888
The emission of light from a substance that has absorbed photons, causing it to transition to an excited electronic state. This excited state then decays back to a lower energy state, releasing energy in the form of light. It encompasses both fluorescence, which is rapid, and phosphorescence, which involves a longer-lived excited state.
