Presaturation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009406

A technique in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy that selectively reduces the signal intensity of a specific resonance, typically from a solvent, by applying a continuous radiofrequency pulse at its Larmor frequency. This process saturates the spin transitions of the targeted nuclei, diminishing their contribution to the overall NMR spectrum. It is particularly effective for solvent suppression in aqueous samples, where the water signal can otherwise obscure signals from analytes.
