Pseudohalogens
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009635
Polyatomic inorganic molecules that resemble the diatomic halogens in their chemical behavior. These species consist of two or more electronegative atoms and form singly charged anions, such as the cyanide ion (CN⁻) or thiocyanate ion (SCN⁻). Like true halogens, they can form dimeric molecules (e.g., (CN)₂), corresponding acids (e.g., HCN), and undergo reactions like disproportionation.
